Helfer was born in the rural area of Donalda, Alberta, Canada, to Dennis Helfer and Elaine Helfer. Her birthplace was in the town of Donalda, Alberta Canada. Parents are Dennis and Elaine Helfer. She attended the William E. Hay Composite High School in Stettler situated in Alberta. She worked and lived on the family's grain farm along with her three sisters, Trena, Tammy and Tara. When she was 17, Helfer's modeling agency agent spotted the model while waiting in line in a theatre.
